Oy, gevalt...it's been a long time. Not quite two months, but still...

So, this week was hell week.
In the on-call department, I put in over 30 hours of unpaid overtime, due to the pager.
One of my systems caused most of the issues, having hardware failures twice, resulting in 4 days of downtime. Luckily, it's part of a 2 system cluster, and the partner system shouldered the rest of the load.
Then, there's the joy of application developers who aren't familiar enough with a Unix system to function, properly, in it, and then reject the advice of the system administrator who knows the system. Look folks, when I tell you that your environment variables or your file paths in your scripts need to be properly set, I flipping well mean it.
Contrary to what my wife thinks, I do not talk to hear myself talk, and don't type email just to see my own words on the screen.
And that goes for the kids, too...I'm getting tired of telling them to do something, and then watching them walk in the completely opposite direction, and do what they want.
